Best Western Plus Gold Country Inn

Normally I wouldn't take the time to write a review for something like this but because of the high price we paid I felt like people need to know what they are getting here. If it had been more appropriately priced (in the low-$100s) I think it wouldn't have been that bad, but when it's pushing $200 it's definitely a poor value. Overall I think that this motel was probably really nice 30+ years ago but the problem is that it looks like it hasn't been updated since then. It's all very dark and dated. It felt a bit like a dungeon going down the long dark hallways. Paint is chipping, things were cracking, water was standing in the bath tubs while we were showering. We heard at least two other people complaining about things so I don't think we are alone in this. The ownership needs to spend some money here and renovate this hotel and get it up to 2023 standards. It's just worn down. The luggage cards are barely held together with duct tape and the mattresses in the bedroom need replaced. I peeked into the office area and it looks like it hasn't been renovated since the 80s. Breakfast was decent for a motel breakfast but the milk was expired which was kind of gross. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the room was fairly clean (though our socks got dirty after an evening here). Ownership either needs to lower their prices dramatically or spend some money here to make it worth the price.
